Inthispaperweexploreandtesttheadvantagesandbenefits of thick-clients for performance and scalability in web applications. An example web application has been developed twice, first with a thin and afterwards with thick-client architecture, using NoSQL and relational database platforms accordingly. The two applications are analyzed and tested for 4 parameters: speed, responsiveness, scalability and database performance. The results are discussed and show dierent aspects to the comparison.
